CSSC #2

Hello this week is flying by.  I planned every day to work on the Crooked Stamper Sketch Challenge #2 but today finally found the time to make a card for it.  I had a lot of fun making this card mainly because I absolutely adore this Elisabeth Bell stamp and I found so much time that I colored two more in  different colors for the boy's outfit.   So you will see this stamp again throughout the year.  I figured these could make good general cards or Christmas cards.  I always think of a boy playing with trains on Christmas morning.  I'm aging myself saying that, but it's true.

As you can see I flipped Leslie's sketch which is fine with Leslie.  I colored my image with Copics.  I cut it out with oval and scallop ovals by SB after I sponged around the edges of the oval. The sentiment is by Hero Arts and cut out with punches.    The background card stock is Very Vanilla and stamped with a retired background stamp by SU!  I used a retired punch on two of the corners.  The mats are Chocolate Chip by SU!. Wow I use a lot of retired  items, but I like them and seem to grab for what I know and like. I could fill a store with the SU! papers that I have.  LOL    Thanks a bunch for stopping by today.  Why not hop over to The Crooked Stamper and join in on the fun.  Leslie would love to have you visit and play along.  Wishing you all a nice evening.

  1. Oh my goodness, this is the best card for a little boy! It brought back memories of my son playing with the trains as a youngster! All he ever wanted to be was an "engineer" back then! LOL I love the background, corner accents and wonderful coloring too!

  2. And what's wrong with using a bunch of retired stuff?!?! If you shop wisely, you buy things you like, and will continue to use long after they're considered "old".

Thank you so much for the shout-out, and thanks for playing my challenge!

  6. How adorable is the image. I just love it. My son loved trains and would have loved this card when he was younger...probably now, too. His son loves Thomas the Train and has spent countless hours playing with his trains. I am afraid he is about to outgrow them, though.....sad.

  8. I like how you flipped the sketch, Donna! Your sweet image, so beautifully colored, is timeless! I think little boys still love playing with trains and girls love playing with dolls. I think they even did a study about it to figure out that most often it is innate for them to do so. Interesting, huh? Hugs, Darnell

  12. That's a great card, Donna!! And yes, trains and Christmas just go together! I suppose someday Christmas will be associated with tablets and new shiny cell phones!! I love how you turned the sketch and I'm giggling because of all the paper from SU and other companies that I have, too!

  13. Donna, You can date me as well, cause I remember the little boy playing with train sets on Christmas morning. At our house it was a daddy & little girl, and we still have the train set! This image is pure nostalgic delight, and I like the subdued colors on this one. The design paper in the background was just a perfect neutral to let your sweet image take center stage. Good use of the sketch too. TFS & Hugs.

  17. Hi Donna! This stamp is so sweet. My Dad had an "N" scale railroad in the basement - this would have been such a cute card for him. Love the soft coloring you used on the image. Have a great day!
